Airport Link
Brisbane
Australia
- Client: Queensland Government / BrisConnections
Capital Cost: AUD $4.9 Billion
Disciplines: Roadway Geometry, Flood Risk Management, Utility Relocation, Contractor Coordination
Project Description:
The Airport Link Project is Australia’s largest road infrastructure development, providing a critical motorway connection between Brisbane’s northern suburbs and the airport. As Lead Design Engineer for the East-West Arterial Bypass segment, we were responsible for roadway geometry, flood modeling, and utility relocations in a high-risk, constrained urban corridor. Our work focused on ensuring the bypass was designed to remain flood-resilient in accordance with local standards, while coordinating closely with multiple utility authorities to manage complex service relocations. We collaborated directly with the construction contractor to align the design with construction sequencing, site safety, and delivery efficiency, supporting smooth implementation of this nationally significant infrastructure.
This portion of the project played a vital role in relieving congestion along one of Brisbane’s busiest corridors and improving access to the airport precinct. The complexity of the flood mitigation strategy required sophisticated hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to account for local topography, storm events, and long-term climate resilience. Our integrated approach ensured that infrastructure durability, operational safety, and urban integration were addressed without compromising project timelines.

- Key Features:
Flood modeling and mitigation strategy for arterial bypass
Roadway geometry design in accordance with local standards
Coordination of complex utility relocations
Integration with a $4.9B national infrastructure program
