Crenshaw Transit Corridor

Los Angeles, California

USA

Client: Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro)
    Capital Cost: $1.3 billion

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project is a pivotal 8.5-mile light rail extension designed to enhance connectivity between the existing Metro Expo Line at Exposition Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard, and the Metro Green Line, serving the communities of Crenshaw, Inglewood, and Westchester. This $1.3 billion design-build initiative encompasses the construction of eight new stations—three of which are underground—alongside 6,200 feet of single-track twin-bore tunnels, seven cross passages, and 9,600 feet of cut-and-cover tunnels.

As Deputy Design Manager, our role involved comprehensive oversight of the detailed design process, ensuring seamless integration of architectural and engineering disciplines to meet the project's complex requirements. Collaborating closely with the Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors joint venture, comprising Walsh Construction and J.F. Shea Company, we prioritized innovative solutions that addressed both functional and aesthetic considerations. Our contributions were instrumental in delivering a transit corridor that not only facilitates efficient transportation but also resonates with the cultural and historical fabric of the neighborhoods it traverses.

Crenshaw Transit Corridor
    Key Features:
Stations: Eight new stations, including three subterranean, designed to enhance passenger experience and accessibility.

Bridges: Construction of six bridges, notably a 315-foot structure spanning the I-405 freeway, addressing significant engineering challenges.

This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering infrastructure that not only meets current transportation needs but also contributes to the sustainable and cultural development of the communities it serves.
