Project Description:
The Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi is set to be a cultural landmark on Saadiyat Island, designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. As Lead Civil Engineer during the schematic and design development phases, we were responsible for the design of all civil infrastructure including roads, utility corridors, grading, and site-wide stormwater strategies. Our role included integrating the civil and transportation networks into the challenging coastal and reclaimed context of Saadiyat Island, ensuring the design met the client’s resilience and operational needs.
We led coordination with structural, MEP, and geotechnical teams to ensure the civil systems complemented the museum's unique and complex architecture. A critical aspect of our scope involved navigating the interface between the museum’s bold architectural geometry and the underlying infrastructure to preserve both aesthetic vision and technical functionality.
The museum’s infrastructure was designed for durability in Abu Dhabi’s extreme climate and integrates sustainable design measures aligned with the broader goals of Saadiyat Cultural District.
